I put these together by myself. Difficulty 5 put of 10. No tools needed. Maybe a rubber mallet to smooth out the rough spots. They are skinny, that's why I bought them. Secure them to a wall. They could topple over.

Shelves tied unit together adequately to hold heavy books and papers that needed to be saved. One rap vertical on each cornerwith rubber hammer tightened unit assembly. Put wire ties to hold shelves down for lifting or moving shelving. Worked well.

This Muscle Rack 5-Shelf Steel Garage Storage Shelving Unit is a must! The beautiful red color will brighten up any room. There is plenty of space to store many items on the wire shelves. I would have given it 5 stars but one of welded pins was missing from the small arm bracket. Hayneedle's excellent customer service sent out the replacement part in a timely manner. These shelves are amazing! Shipped to store. Assembled easily. Construction is easy. But use a rubber mallet. They have them at the 99 cent store. I used it for boxes of trading cards and other supplies. Works great. Red paint job is great looking too. Love it

My brother in law and I put 4 of these together in 1 hour. Very easy, but you have to use a rubber mallet or a hammer with a piece of wood to protect the paint as you pound the rails into the frame. Some of the pieces with lots of paint on them were rather snug, but that means they'll stay together well. If you don't push all the rails all the way down into the slots, the whole unit can appear twisted. This is fixed by finding the rails you did not get completely in, and pounding them in better. The red color is really attractive, as so much on the market is boring gray or chrome colored. Works well on concrete floor, but you might want to put protectors under the feet if using indoors or on a tiled garage floor. The 18' depth works well for us, as the 24' depth would not allow us to get two cars in our garage with room to open the doors.

Sturdy, went together relatively well, steel shelves superior to pressboard models by this manufactuer that tend to bow in middle, these are holding considerable weight easily. Would purchase again as they are a good bargain for the price

Found the shelving easy to put together with little trouble (except for putting corner pieces upside down - duh). However, would like to have had a little less space between the wires of the shelves. I've had to put cardboard on some of the shelves to keep smaller items from falling through.
Fun for a Boy's room!

We got this shelf for our son's room. We put all his books in crates on the shelves, as well as some Lego bins and some larger toys. It holds a ton of stuff and the red and metal is such a fun look! It wasn't that hard to assemble and seems very sturdy. The red color is defniltely red, but it's more on the slightly orange-ish side than a deep, cool red.

Don't hold much weight without modification

First, you must have a rubber mallet to assemble this. Second, The shelves fall through. The claim is that each shelf can hold 800 lbs. This is absolutely false. Any weight causes the length beams to spread so that the wire shelf falls through the middle. They should have put a support beam across the middle of each shelf under each wire shelf.The fix? I don't know. If you don't need the shelves to hold any weight (I have about 2 feet of hardcover books on each), then perhaps zip ties would work. Otherwise, perhaps replacing each wire shelf with a hardwood or perhaps welding the shelves in place.Disappointed.

These shelves are perfect for my book collections. They were a little bit hard to assemble, but with the help of a mallet and ALOT of pounding, they finally went together and are EXTREMELY sturdy!

Shelves are good wire not real heavy duty. It would be nice if the wire spacing on shelves was smaller.Instructions do not match the hardware, even on line. Came with parts not listed on instructions, and I do not know if they were for these units. One box can tapped up as if it had been ripped open. Everything was in very good shape. Easy to assemble. For the money I would not buy again due to not being as heavy duty as others.

Attractive, but when too much weight is put on wire shelves, they come off the rail. Solved by using zip ties in the middle of the shelf and rail. Also put on plywood shelf above wire shelf where paint cans would be stored.
Great shelves for storage room

I bought these shelves for my storage room and they look great and feel sturdy. They hold 2 big bins per shelf easily with extra room for something else. We bought two shelves, After a learning curve on the first shelves, things went much smoother and faster the second time around. Directions weren't as clear as as they could have been. We had extra pieces we didn't know what to do with, but they are still very sturdy.I would purchase these again.

We were looking for sturdy storage racking for our basement storage room and selected this item.It arrived exactly as scheduled and was much easier to erect than I was expecting. You do NOT need an spanners / tools - just a rubber mallet to knock the framework together. It took me us approx 20 minutes from start to finish.I have just ordered 2 more based on my initial order - only problem is that they are presently out of inventory !!

Quality Control is Terrible

Buyer beware - I ordered four of these recently. Quality control is a big issue. First set of two arrived perfectly packed and in great condition. The second set of two wasn't packed correctly, hardware was scratched and bent. Even worse, the second set was manufactured differently than the first set so they don't look the same and the shelf heights don't even line up correctly. I would have returned but it wasn't worth my time and aggravation to do so. I have returns with walmart that take weeks to resolve, this is probably my last time buying from them online.
